WINDHOEK, 23 APR (NAMPA) - The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) will strengthen its secretariat to ensure that it is well capacitated to support services at grassroots level.
This was said by NCCI Chief Executive Officer Charity Mwiya during a media conference on the chamber's advocacy and role in the economy.
She said the NCCI secretariat cannot work in isolation when it comes to resource mobilisation and income generation to fund projects and programmes.
'This means strong and committed leadership at branch level is more important than ever before,' she said.
Mwiya went on to say that elected leaders of branches should be capable and have unquestionable integrity driven by willingness to put the NCCI before their personal interests.
SMEs should also be able to look up to such leaders for mentorship.
Challenges impeding economic growth such as an unfriendly business climate, bureaucracy and an ever over-regulated environment, the high cost of doing business, absence of skill, inability to access capital and a small manufacturing base would be tackled by the NCCI, Mwiya said.
Competitive advantage for foreigners and local entrepreneurs and the private sector is also being addressed by the chamber.
