MARIENTAL, 20 APR (NAMPA) – The Oshana and Omusati Under-20 regional football teams played out a dazzling draw in which six goals were scored at the Newspaper Cup here.
Oshana started the match with determination and almost took the lead in the ninth minute after Erastus Isak’s shot was deflected for a corner. Nothing came of the resulting corner.
In the 10th minute, Oshana captain Junior Petrus opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead.
Omusati replied through Jacob Uuso in the 18th minute assisted by Eliakim Makaya to level matters while Oshana was still in a celebratory mood.
The goal spurred Omusati on and they threatened to score when a low cross from the flank was gathered by the Oshana goalkeeper.
Against the run of play, Petrus extended Oshana’s lead to 2-1 in the 25th minute and gained another goal four minutes later when Petrus turned from scorer to provider by assisting Shafixuna Neema.
In the 30th minute, Petrus had the chance to score a hat-trick when an inviting cross was whipped and his header was spectacularly saved by the Omusati goalkeeper.
Into injury time in the first half, Luaman Alfeus’s free-kick outside the penalty box hit the cross bar only for the rebound to be wasted by Omusati’s attacker.
The first half ended 3-1 in favour of Oshana.
Immediately from the restart, Petrus blasted a shot over the bar and was punished in the 47th minute when Matheus Ilunga reduced the deficit to 3-2.
Sensing that they stand a chance, Omusati threw everything forward, but were let down by wayward shooting.
On the other end, Petrus missed a glorious chance when faced with the goalkeeper only to see his shot go past the near post.
The two teams resorted to shooting from distance, but Omusati’s pressure paid off in the 50th minute when a header from Titus Kautsima beat the outstretched hands of the Oshana goalkeeper to level matters at three goals apiece.
Deep into injury time, Petrus’s goal-bound header was tipped over for a corner and the final score remained 3-all.
Wilbard Mbago of Omusati was chosen as player of the match.
