WINDHOEK, 18 APR (NAMPA) – African Stars Football Club’s title ambitions suffered a dent Wednesday night following a 2-2 draw with their bogey side Tura Magic at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The MTC Namibia Premier League defending champions, Stars, were the first to settle and open the scoring through in form striker Chrispen Mbewe in the fifth minute.
However, Magic refused to give in and found the back of the net for their equaliser through the returning defender Baloyi Tsandib.
The gangling defender headed in from a Uetuuru Kambato free kick in the first half added time to leave the two sides tied at 1-1 during the break.
The second half saw Magic laying siege to the Stars goal, first with Tsandib rattling the upright from a corner before Larry Horaeb flush his effort across the goal line in the 46th minute.
However, Stars soon took the lead again through their Comoros import Youssouf Ibroihim who beat an offside trap, beat the goalkeeper and scored into an empty net to make it 2-1 for Stars.
Magic pushed for an equaliser and Tweta Katjimune could not believe his eyes as his attempted shot went over the bar following a great move involving substitute Romeo Kasume Salomon Omseb and Theophilus Junius.
With five minutes remaining, Magic’s Ngutjua Karumendu beat Marcel Papama for the ball in the middle and released Junius, who beat the offside trap and slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-2.
With the draw, Stars remain in position two with 39 points, three behind log leaders Black Africa who are facing Tigers on Thursday evening.
Magic remains in fourth position with 29 points.
