WINDHOEK, 04 JAN (NAMPA) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident Friday morning, just when law enforcement officers were about to announce that the 2013/14 festive seasons was virtually crime-free.
The as-yet-unidentified male pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle along Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue in the early hours of Friday, around 04h00 according to police estimates.
The pedestrian died on the spot while the driver fled the scene.
City Police Chief Abraham Kanime said police officers have been sent out to obtain CCTV footage from surveillance cameras covering that area.
The footage from the area will be gathered and used as evidence against the culprit, if available.
An autopsy will be conducted on the body and police investigations continue.
