RUNDU, 15 APR (NAMPA) – The four prisoners who escaped from the Omega Police Station holding cells in the Kavango East Region in March this year, have still not been rearrested.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday the police conducted a thorough search across the entire region but have come up empty-handed.
“I suspect they fled to Botswana and Angola as two of the inmates are from Botswana and the other two from Angola,” Kanyetu said.
The deputy commissioner said the Namibian Police have already been in contact with the governments of the two countries on how they can be assisted with the search.
The four men escaped through a corridor window of the cells at the beginning of March.
The two inmates from Botswana were detained for poaching while the other two were arrested in connection with rape.
