UPDATE: NIMT DIRECTOR, DEPUTY DIRECTOR FEARED DEAD AFTER SHOOTING

SWAKOPMUND, 15 APR (NAMPA) – The police in Erongo have confirmed the double murder incident at the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology in Arandis Monday morning.
The deceased have been identified as the 72-year-old Eckhardt Mueller who was the institution’s Executive Director and 60-year-old Deputy Director, Helmo Hellwig.
A crime report issued by Namibian Police Force Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Gurirab on Monday indicated that the incident occurred between 06h00 and 06h30 in front of their office block at the campus.
“They were found with bullet wounds in their heads and stomachs by their colleagues,” Gurirab added.
He said eight spent cartridges of a 9mm pistol were also found on the scene.
No suspects have been arrested at this stage and the motives behind the murders are still unknown.
Police investigations are underway.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
