Woman dies in accident outside Swakopmund

SWAKOPMUND, 14 APR (NAMPA) – A 20-year-old woman died after being run over while trying to cross the road just outside Swakopmund in the early hours of Sunday.
A police report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Erastus Iikuyu on Sunday indicated that the deceased was one of seven occupants of a vehicle headed to Swakopmund from Walvis Bay.
He said the driver pulled over for his passengers to relieve themselves about three kilometres from the bridge around 04h30.
“The deceased, who has been identified as Sibongile Munden Gases, was run over by an oncoming taxi while crossing the road and died on the spot,” Iikuyu said.
Nobody was injured in the taxi, which had three occupants including the 30-year-old driver.
The deceased was a resident of Tulinawa in Swakopmund and her next of kin have been informed.
Her body was taken to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for a post-mortem.
In an unrelated matter, the police are searching for a white Volkswagen Kombi stolen from a house in Ocean View on Friday.
According to Iikuyu, the vehicle belongs to Schieri Frans, who was in possession of both sets of the car’s keys when it was stolen from his friend’s house around 18h00.
The car’s registration number is N3170S.
