WINDHOEK, 12 APR (NAMPA) - Maintaining peace and unity and fostering reconciliation among communities are qualities that made the late Ondonga King, Immanuel Kauluma Elifas an outstanding leader, President Hage Geingob has said.
The Head of State was speaking on Friday at the royal memorial service of the king, who died on 26 March at the age of 86.
Geingob praised the late traditional authority leader, saying his leadership was of the highest calibre.
“He had the wisdom to distinguish right from wrong. He possessed exceptional maturity and moral qualities which helped maintain the dignity of the Ondonga Traditional Authority,” the Head of State said.
He further described Elifas as an invaluable figurehead to his kinfolk who has left a void amongst Namibia's traditional leaders.
Geingob, while addressing mourners at the memorial service held at Onamungundo village in the Oshikoto Region, urged Namibians not to undermine their cultures, traditions and elders by promoting conflict and disunity.
“Omukwaniilwa Elifas worked hard using his innate reconciliatory and mediatory powers to unite the Ondonga people, not only with each other, but with the rest of their Namibian brothers and sisters.”
He expressed the hope that those left with the responsibility of leadership to ensure that they protect the dignity of the Ondonga Traditional Authority.
