RUNDU, 12 APR (NAMPA) Rundu is expected to be a hive of activity when the inaugural Ngandu Music and Arts Festival will take centre stage at the river town next weekend.
The event is scheduled to take place on 20 April at the Rundu Sports Stadium.
A member of the organising committee, Hafeni Namwira told Nampa the festival is aimed at providing a platform for Namibian businesses and artists in all sorts of arts to promote, sell and grow their product and service offerings.
He said the idea behind the festival, a first of its kind in this part of the country, is also aimed at bringing the larger community of Kavango and all Namibians together in order to showcase and celebrate local artists and forms of creative art.
Namwira noted the organising team would want the festival to be an annual event whereby its planning, control, and execution will be entrusted to the youth in Kavango East and West through a mentorship programme.
The former radio presenter further said a certain percentage of the profits from the event will be given to a charity organisation that will be chosen by the community.
The festival will be unique because for the first time, we are looking at capitalising on the great and diverse creative nature of the two regions, said Namwira.
He said this will all be portrayed in every aspect of the festival, from the food to the exhibitions to the music and most importantly, the people that will grace the event.
The artistic aspect of the festival, Namwira emphasised, has gone unnoticed and undervalued for a long time and the event will largely portray what the two Kavango regions stand for and how they blend with the rest of Namibia.
From sketch artists to painters, to the renowned woodcarvers of Kavango, this is a platform created for them to show everyone their art form along with every other prominent art form, he said.
The event will feature musical performances from local artists and an array of local and international cuisine as well as fun sports activities for all age groups.
Entrance tickets of N.dollars 40 can be purchased at Webtickets at Pick n Pay outlets.
