REHOBOTH, 12 APR (NAMPA) – Defending champions of The Namibian Newspaper Cup, Omaheke Region has made changes to its technical team by roping in former Namibia Premier League player George Tjombe as the team’s second assistant coach.
Former media officer and now head of delegation, Jermano Eiseb told Nampa on Friday the changes were necessitated after the previous head of delegation, Herman Jacobs resigned due to personal reasons, adding that Tjombe’s experience as a former player will help the team in retaining the cup.
Quinton Witbeen will be the team’s head coach, deputised by Ewaldt Kaviromba and Tjombe, while Elwin Gariseb will serve as team manager, assisted by Dickman Merema.
Gerhard Uamunika takes up the technical director position. Herman Tjizoo will serve as logistics manager and Eugenia Mokgatea as the team’s medical officer.
Omaheke is grouped along with host region Hardap, Kunene and Kavango West.
The eastern region won the competition on four occasions; at the inaugural event in 2001 in Windhoek, in 2002 in Otjiwarongo, in 2009 in Windhoek and 2018 in Katima Mulilo.
Meanwhile, the team will play a friendly match against the visiting Westphalia Under-17 team from Germany at the Legare Stadium at 16h00 on Saturday in preparation for the Newspaper Cup.
