WINDHOEK, 11 APR (NAMPA) - The new Namibia Police Force (NamPol) headquarters in Windhoek will be inaugurated in late May or early June this year.
Speaking to Nampa in an interview on Wednesday, NamPol Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga said the contractors are now busy with the finishing touches in preparation for the inaugural ceremony in late May or early June.
According to Ndeitunga, the timeline of the construction of the headquarters fell behind schedule as the building was initially scheduled for completion early last year.
“It is behind schedule because of financial delays. The contractors were not paid on time,” he said.
The new headquarters, which towers massively over the old building, features a helipad on its roof.
Ndeitunga also revealed that in an effort to stretch its N.dollars 4.9 billion budget allocation for this fiscal year, NamPol will be moving personnel working from various government-rented properties throughout Windhoek into the old headquarters.
In addition to this, the police force intends to close down small mobile stations temporarily and move that personnel to small police stations.
