KEETMANSHOOP, 09 APR (NAMPA) – A 42-year-old man arrested with cannabis worth N.dollars 130 000 here last week Thursday, was on Monday denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Simon Sirunda appeared before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda who postponed his case to 19 June this year for further police investigations and formal bail application of the accused.
Sirunda was denied bail because police investigations are at an early stage and because it is not in the interest of the administration of justice for bail to be granted.
Bail was also refused because of the seriousness of the case and the State fearing the accused person might commit other offences while on bail.
The accused on Monday indicated to the court that he would approach a private lawyer to represent him in his alleged drug dealing case.
The State was represented by Joas Neemwatya.
Sirunda is remanded in custody at the Keetmanshoop Police holding cells until his next court appearance.
Namibian Police Force //Kharas crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Monday that Sirunda was arrested on Thursday after he was allegedly found with cannabis weighing 31 kilogrammes.
“The suspect was arrested at his shack in Extension 7 at about 16h00 and an amount of N.dollars 7 950 was also confiscated,” said Mubebo.
