WINDHOEK, 09 APR (NAMPA) – Eenhana Boxing and Fitness Academy will host its annual amateur boxing bonanza on 19 April.
Event organiser Petrus Gerson told Nampa in an interview over the weekend the purpose of the event is to help grassroots boxers develop.
It will take place at the Onawa Mini Market Complex.
Gerson said they have invited other boxing clubs from within the Ohangwena Region, as well as from other regions like Zambezi and Oshana.
“The region has talented boxers who are eager to make it big but they face challenges with inadequate training equipment and facilities,” he said.
He said their main challenge is the lack of a boxing ring.
“There is only one which is in Oshakati and it is not enough for all of us. We end up sharing it with clubs from other regions and we have to book it and pay for it before we can use it, so training facilities are really a challenge here,” said Gerson.
The overall winner when the event was held for the first time last year, was Eenhana Boxing Club.
Namibia Boxing Federation president Benjamin Rebang confirmed that the boxing bonanza has been sanctioned.
