WINDHOEK, 08 APR (NAMPA) – Namibia Premier League log leader Black Africa’s (BA) seven point lead at the top of the log was reduced to four points by Okahandja United at Windhoek’s Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday.
Okahandja United beat BA 1-0 in one of the more exciting games played over the weekend.
BA, who humiliated Julinho Sporting Friday night with a 5-0 win, had little to offer in front of goal when they took on Okahandja United, who were more composed on the night.
The Okahandja-based outfit scored their only goal of the match in the 25th minute through Christiaan Doeseb, whose strike from 15 metres was too difficult to stop for BA goalkeeper Kamayonda Ndisiro.
The Katutura giants tried everything in their power to find an equaliser but their efforts were fruitless as the half-time score was 1-0.
In the second half, Okahandja United came back firing on all cylinders and almost found their second goal of the match after Gerland Kaengurora beat the BA defence and goalkeeper, but his efforts went unnoticed as Emilio Martin came from behind to clear the goal off the line.
In the 63rd minute BA had a goal disallowed for offside after Derl Goagoseb bounced on a loss ball that was punched out by Okahandja United goalkeeper Calvin Spiegel.
Okahandja United were once again on target in the 86th and 89th minute with their substitute Uaodjabane Nakambare, who beat the BA defenders, but his final kick ended up on the side net and he again missed a one-on-one opportunity after a brilliant pass by Marco van Wyk.
With the game getting nine minutes of additional time due to Spiegel’s time wasting tactics, Nakambare was given his marching orders after a dangerous tackle on BA’s Donalt Gaiseb.
Despite being reduced by one man, Okahandja United held on to victory as they handed BA their second defeat of the season.
BA are now on 38 points, while African Stars are just four points away on 34 points from 16 matches played thus far.
