WINDHOEK, 07 APR (NAMPA) – Bottom of the log Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit Orlando Pirates displayed an impressive performance when they shared the spoils with Tura Magic at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
The Katutura giants have been a shadow of their former selves for the past three seasons and ended 15th in the first leg of the 2018/19 MTC NPL season.
Pirates are on the verge of being relegated from the MTC Premiership as they are bottom of a 15-team league, with seven points from 15 NPL matches played thus far.
On Saturday, the revived Pirates who made a couple of signings during the transfer window, held Tura Magic to a 1-1 draw in front of a few spectators at the cathedral of Namibian football.
The Damara location outfit look refreshed as they dominated position from the start to the end of the match.
Despite their dominance, however, it was Tura Magic who opened the scoring early in the second half when Netauku Kambato caught the Pirates defence napping in the 49th minute and headed in a cross from the right wing by Junias Theophilus.
It took just five minutes for Pirates super substitute Desmond Isaak to find an equaliser. Isaak’s strike from outside the box found the top right corner in the 54th minute after it deflected from one of the Tura Magic defenders.
After finding their equaliser, the reformed Pirate continued with their attacks and almost found the back of the net in the 78th minute when George Haikali’s hard work was saved by Tura Magic substitute goalkeeper Derrick Agyei.
The final score was 1-1.
Pirates collected a single point as they still remained bottom of the log on seven points, while Tura Magic remained sixth on the log standing on 21 points.
Another match played on Saturday saw Tigers in a goalless draw with Okahandja United at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. Okahandja United are now on 16 points, while Tigers are on 19 points after 15 matches played.
