Cabinet wants agreements with Ghana finalised

WINDHOEK, 05 APR (NAMPA) – Cabinet directed the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development to finalise and implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on 27 February this year between Namibia and Ghana on trade and economic cooperation.
This is according to Information Minister Stanley Simataa in a media statement issued Thursday, highlighting decisions recently approved by Cabinet.
The statement said there is an MoU of mutual cooperation between the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, the agreement on trade and economic cooperation and an MoU on the Development and Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Cabinet also agreed that the Ministry of Mines and Energy should ensure the finalisation and implementation of the harmonised draft MoU in the sphere of oil and gas covering exploration, development, production, refining, storage and marketing of petroleum products and further form technical committees, as per agreed minutes.
The Ministry of Works and Transport is also urged to consult and finalise the draft Air Service Agreement between the two sides and ensure compliance with the domestic legal processes in relation to the exercise of fifth freedom rights to points beyond Africa, on a case by case basis before the end of May 2019.
“On maritime matters, the same ministry should finalise the draft MoU on maritime affairs and resubmit it to the Ghanaian authorities through diplomatic channels before the end of April 2019,” added the statement.
The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service was also in the mix as it was urged to finalise and harmonise the draft MoU incorporating areas such as education, training, capacity building and entrepreneurship of the youth of Ghana and Namibia and further implementation of all relevant items enumerated in their agreed minutes.
Cabinet also ordered the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation to implement the framework agreement with the Ministry of Education of Ghana for cooperation in higher education and training.
