Youngsters win Harders Cup

LÜDERITZ, 31 MAR (NAMPA) – Youngsters Football Club won the 2019 Harders Cup by beating Atlanta Bucs 2-1 at the Lüderitz Football Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The match, which was played in windy conditions, saw Youngsters win the cup for the second time since its inception through goals by joint tournament goal scorers Howard Shipepa and Ronaldo Solomon.
Bucs took the lead when Tutaleni Hamupolo nodded home from a corner kick midway through the first half.
They dominated the proceedings as the strong winds aided their cause, but failed to capitalise on the advantage.
To their credit they had a goal disallowed by the match officials who were out of sorts in their decision making.
However, Youngsters kept pressurising their opponents and were rewarded in the first half injury time when Eusebio Fredericks showed his class by skipping through three tackles on the right flank before laying an inch perfect pass for his strike partner Shipepa, who slammed home to make it 1-1 at half-time.
The second half saw the advantage going Youngsters’ way as the wind once again played a big role in their second goal.
They won a free kick deep into Bucs’ half on the right flank and up stepped Eusebio’s brother Ozario, whose powerful shot was pared back into play by Tuhafeni Filipus, in goals for Bucs.
Solomon was the fastest to react and slammed the ball into the back of the net in what seemed to be an offside position, much to the anger of the Bucks players.
Both teams tried to score more goals but the wind became worse and made it difficult to play football, until the match ended 2-1 in favour of Youngsters.
Having won the tournament in its inaugural year in 2017, Youngsters become the first team to win the tournament more than once.
The tournament also saw four players jointly ending as top goal scorers, three apiece, while goal keeper of the tournament went to Filipus.
