KEETMANSHOOP, 28 MAR (NAMPA) – Keetmanshoop will host the first-ever Swartmodder Football Tournament this weekend, with 28 teams participating.
The tournament will take place at the J Stephanus Stadium from Friday to Sunday and will see teams from the Namibia Football Association’s first and second divisions and non-league teams taking part.
One of the organisers of the tournament, Emrico Blaauw told Nampa on Thursday all 28 teams have confirmed their participation.
The draw will take place at the stadium at 19h00 on Friday.
Teams from the Hardap and //Kharas Regions, as well as the Northern Cape will take part.
Blaauw said they decided to organise the tournament because the first and second divisions are inactive as no starting dates have been communicated yet.
“The tournament is aimed at keeping the players busy and fit because the first and second divisions are inactive countrywide. It is also a way for our sponsors to give back to the Keetmanshoop community as part of their corporate social responsibility,” he said.
The prizes total N.dollars 50 000, sponsored by Llewellyn Firefighting.
The winner will receive N.dollars 25 000 in cash and a floating trophy.
The runners-up will walk away with N.dollars 15 000, while the semi-final losers will receive N.dollars 5 000 each.
