REHOBOTH, 27 MAR (NAMPA) – The 50-year-old man arrested after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a panga on 23 February this year, was refused bail during his second appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Eligius Shaningwa appeared before Magistrate Anna Katrina Kruger on a charge of attempted murder and his case was postponed to 15 May 2019 for further investigations and for the accused to apply for legal representation through the Ministry of Justice’s Legal Aid directorate.
It is alleged that Shaningwa, the boyfriend of the 31-year-old victim, struck her several times over the head in the Oshiwana Penduka informal settlement, after he accused her of cheating on him.
She sustained serious injuries.
Public Prosecutor Reinhard Jacobs represented the State in the matter.
Shaningwa is detained at the Mariental police holding cells.
