RUNDU, 27 MAR (NAMPA) – The All People’s Party (APP) on Wednesday welcomed back former Secretary-General (SG) Mukuve Marcellus Mudumbi after he retired from active politics in 2010.
Mudumbi told a media conference in Rundu he returned in order to continue with efforts made by the party that have seen light, such as the implementation of free primary education.
The former APP SG said before its implementation, free primary education was one of the issues the APP tackled as a party and it was implemented.
Another area the party tackled was the need for orphans and vulnerable children to receive grants which he said government listened to and implemented under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, he added.
“The country now is going from better to worse. The Kavango Region, especially Kavango West Region, has very poor to no road networks, particularly inland,” Mudumbi stressed.
This, he said needs to be addressed as people there are now challenged in bringing their goods to the markets or sell to nearby towns.
“It would be fit to say that the Namibian Government is violating these people’s basic human rights by denying them these services,” he stated.
APP's regional coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Marcellus Haivera said the party was welcoming one of its political giants back home.
Although welcomed as an ordinary member, Haivera said the party will engage in discussions to see what leadership role or position Mudumbi will be accorded as he is a capable leader.
