WINDHOEK, 27 MAR (NAMPA) – Nearly N.dollars 286 million has been allocated to the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service for the 2019/20 financial year, a figure that falls N.dollars 2 million short of the 2018/2019 National Budget allocation to the ministry.
This was revealed when Minister of Finance Calle Schlettwein tabled the N.dollars 60.1 billion national budget in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The ministry was allocated N.dollars 285 999 000, which is N.dollars 2 001 000 less than in the 2018/19 budget for the directorates of sport, youth and national service.
During the tabling of the national budget, Schlettwein announced that an additional N.dollars 15 million will be allocated for youth entrepreneurship projects on top of the N.dollars 9.5 million to support youth employment and self-employment under the National Youth Council.
The finance minister said the budget sets out the development outcomes the country aspires to achieve this year and beyond ,in addition to securing a new pattern of sustainable economic growth that is broadly shared by all Namibians.
“As masters of our own destiny, this budget summons the collective energy of all Namibians and implementing offices, ministries and agencies to rally together for broad-based economic growth activities,” Schlettwein said.
He added that the budget is targeted at stimulating economic growth and bringing about decent jobs in addition to further adjusting the public fiscal stance to sustainable and stable levels.
