WINDHOEK, 27 MAR (NAMPA) – Kobos Horse Racing will host the second edition of the Kobos Independence Horse Racing Handicap on Saturday.
It will take place at the Kobos Race Track some 60 kilometres southwest of Rehoboth.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Wenzel van Wyk, one of the organisers of the competition, said the event is aimed at celebrating Namibia’s independence.
“So far the competition has attracted 35 horses from different parts of the country that will compete for N.dollars 65 000 in 10 sprints,” Van Wyk said.
The organiser added that horses from the Professor Supporters Club, Kobos Racing, De Waal Racing, Okahandja Racing and Mouton Racing, amongst others, will feature in this year’s competition.
Van Wyk said Kings Kitten of Eamon Frygang, Oronegro from Kobos Racing, Shadaloo from Professor Supporters Club, Warm Pack from De Waal Racing and Rockly Beach from Okahandja Racing are expected to shine in the thoroughbred category.
He also added that there will be games for children attending the event.
“There will be jumping castles and many other fun games, therefore you must not leave the children home,” he said.
The winner of the 2000 metre race in the recent Corridor 13 competition, Stebbins from Professor Supporters Club, can expect a tough from Lady Ellodoor of Enrico Junius.
Valeryn Steel from Kobos Racing and Bohania of Freygang will battle it out in the graduation category, while Dashing Brave from Mouton Racing are expected to shine in the Nam-bred beginner category.
Two young horses from Narris Racing Cowboy and Christoph are also expected to make their debut during the competition.
Kings Kitten, Professor, La Mist and Not On My Watch performed well in last year’s competition.
Kobos Horse Racing was established in 2017 to promote horse racing, especially in the Hardap Region.
