Otjimanangombe wins pre-season cup

WINDHOEK, 26 MAR (NAMPA) – Otjimanangombe football team won the Otjomuise Soccer League (OSL) pre-season knock-out competition at Ella du Plessis High school sport field in the capital on Sunday.
OSL co-founder Nelson Shipandeni told Nampa that the tournament saw Special Reserve Force, Jitas, Otjimanangombe, Goreansdal, Labour, Amazon, Southern Kings, Seven Eleven and Fortis Football Academy battling it out for the pre-season bragging rights.
In the first game of the tourney, Amazon defeated Southern Kings 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1draw.
Otjimanangombe stunned Special Reserve Force 2–1 after regulation time in the second semi-final, leading to an encounter between Amazon and Otjimanangombe in the final.
Two goals from Melton Kavari and solitary goals from Leo Mate, Tjinotjiua Mata, Uakuna Murangi were enough to see Otjimanangombe crushing Amazon 5-1 in the final to be crown champions.
Gideon Kalume scored the consolation goal for Amazon.
Otjimanangombe pocketed N. dollars 2 000 as final winners whereas Amazon took home N. dollars 1 500 as runners up.
Southern Kings and Special Reserve Force each received N. dollars 1 000 as losing semi-finalists.
Otjimanangombe coach, Procolo Kamburona, said that his team’s good performance is coupled with commitment and hard-work.
“These types of tournaments are aimed at promoting players to play in top leagues. My players showed the hunger for winning this competition and I have to applaud them,” he said.
According to Kamburona, this cup will also motivate Otjimanangombe to do well in the league that will start soon.
