Truck Team and Otjiuamapeta wins KASU’s Independence Cup

WINDHOEK, 25 MAR (NAMPA) – Windhoek-based Truck Team and Otjiuamapeta from Epukiro won the netball and football competition of the Katutura Sport Union (KASU) respectively, here Sunday.
Truck team won the competition for the fourth consecutive year.
The tournament which saw 20 football teams and 15 netball teams competing amongst each other was held at the Khomasdal Stadium.
In the first netball semi-final match, Windhoek-based Young Generation defeated their counterparts Orunarongue from Otjinene 17-12.
Truck Team overcame Katutura-based KASU Eleven 28- 20 in the second semi-final.
Truck Team ladies then won the Independence Cup after they defeated Young Generation 32-22 in the final and took home N. dollars 2 500, a trophy and 12 gold medals.
Young Generation pocketed N. dollars 1 500, along with 12 silver medals as the runners up, while Orunarongue and KASU Eleven ladies each took home N. dollars 750 as losing semi-finalists.
Truck Team manager Tjaa Kavari said the competition was a very tough but managed to win, through teamwork.
“As defending champions, we really worked hard and managed to win this cup for the fourth consecutive year,” she boasted.
Meanwhile, in the football category, Otjiuamapeta overcame Ovinjuru from Epukiro 4-3 on penalties after a 2 all draw in the first semi-final.
In the second semi-final, Rovers United from Otjombinde which locked horns with Truck team won 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw.
Otjiuamapeta then won the final, defeating Rovers United by two goals to one and pocketed N. dollars 6 500 and 20 gold medals as final winners.
Rovers United took home N. dollars 3 500 and 20 silver medals as runners up while Ovinjuru and Truck Team each took home N. dollars 2 000 as the losing semi-finalists.
Otjiuamapeta team captain Tjiuai Hangero said that the team showed hunger for winning the competition.
“This is a second competition we have won this year. We are committed, united and the team spirit is high among ourselves,” he added.
Otjiuamapeta is the current winner of KASU’s Valentines Cup that was held in February 2019 in the capital.
