REHOBOTH, 25 MAR (NAMPA) - The Omaheke Region has appointed a technical team to prepare the Under-20 football team for the defense of The Namibian Newspaper Cup, which it won last year in Katima Mulilo.
This year’s annual event will be held from 19 April to 22 April in Mariental in the Hardap Region.
The technical team was appointed following a Football League Executive Committee Meeting held on 02 February.
Herman Jacobs will serve as the head of delegation to the tournament; with Quinton Witbeen as the team’s head coach, deputised by Ewaldt Kaviromba. Elwin Gariseb will serve as the team manager, assisted by Gerhard Uamunika, while Jermano Eiseb takes up the team media officer position. Herman Tjizoo will serve as the logistics manager, while Eugenia Mokgatea will serve as the team’s medical officer.
Speaking to Nampa on Monday, Eiseb said they are looking forward to the tournament as all the pressure will be on them as defending champions.
“The game that will stand out is the one against hosts Hardap, who will be buoyed by their home crowd. We want to defend our title at all costs,” Eiseb said, adding that the team selection will be completed by next week.
Omaheke has won the competition on four occasions, a record they jointly hold with Khomas Region, including the inaugural The Namibian Newspaper Cup in 2001, held in Windhoek.
