Schlip acting station commander dies in road accident

REHOBOTH, 17 MAR (NAMPA) – A 48-year-old man died on the spot after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and it veered off the road and rolled several times on the Banhoff- Ulenhorst gravel road on Saturday afternoon.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Sunday that the incident happened approximately three kilometres from Banhoff near Rehoboth at about 18h30.
“It is alleged that the [owner] of a white double cab Isuzu pick-up with a Rehoboth registration lost control of his vehicle and it left the road and overturned several times. The driver was thrown out of the vehicle and he succumbed to his injuries on the scene,” Clay said.
He said the deceased, identified as Louis van Wyk, was an Acting Station and Unit Commander of Schlip Police Station in the Hardap Region.
A female passenger who was with him in the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Merlyn van Wyk, survived the accident although she was rushed with serious injuries to the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rehoboth.
The next of kin of deceased has been informed of his death and police investigations continues.
