RUNDU, 12 MAR (NAMPA) - The case of a 16-year-old girl arrested on Sunday for allegedly dumping her new-born at Katjina Katji village in the Kavango West Region has been postponed to 11 April 2019.
The teenager whose name cannot be made public owing to her being a minor appeared before Magistrate Hellen Olaiya in the Rundu Magirstate’s Court on Tuesday, who postponed the matter.
The accused was charged with murder-alternative culpable homicide.
The case was postponed for further police investigation and for the accused to apply for legal aid.
The teen was arrested on Sunday after she gave birth to a baby boy in her sleeping hut without any assistance and wrapped a cloth around it before dumping it close to a path at an unknown time on Saturday.
The accused has thus been released to the care of her guardian.
Emma Mayavero represented the State in the matter.
