OTJIWARONGO, 12 MAR (NAMPA) - A security guard who guarded the Nedbank branch at Otjiwarongo when it was robbed last week, is one of the four suspects who appeared in the Otjiwarongo Magistrates Court on Monday.
The four suspects allegedly used unknown objects to force open a window and gain entrance to the building. They made off with nearly N.dollars 3 million.
The 37-year-old security guard, Natangwe Shikulo, was arrested along with Petrus Shipopyeni, 43, on Thursday.
Immanuel Pandeinge, 35, and Hophni Amakali, 43, were apprehended the next day.
Shikulo, Shipopyeni, Pandeinge and Amakali made their first court appearance on charges of housebreaking with intent to steal, and theft.
Their rights were explained to them by Otjiwarongo Magistrate, Yvette Fredericks.
Shikulo opted to apply for a State-funded lawyer through the Legal Aid Directorate in the Ministry of Justice, while Shipopyeni, Pandeinge and Amakali will defend themselves in court.
They were then denied bail on the grounds that they committed a serious offence.
Public prosecutor, Leonard Tjiveze who represented the State in the matter, also told the court it would not be in the public interest for bail to be granted and said the possibility of them absconding is also high.
