Deadly B1 crash claims six lives

WINDHOEK, 11 MAR (NAMPA) – A head-on collision on the B1 road between Okahandja and Windhoek during the early hours of Monday, left six people dead.
A Toyota Corolla and Mitsubishi SUV collided head-on in the accident which occurred four kilometres from the Windhoek-Okahandja roadblock around 05h45.
The sedan was heading to Windhoek with five commuters on board, while the SUV was occupied by a single passenger who was on his way to Okahandja.
“At this stage, I can only confirm that the accident claimed six lives. I cannot say much as the next of kin of those who were involved in the accident, have not been informed yet,” Chief Inspector Petrus Shipepe of the Okahandja police told Nampa on the scene.
The Corolla caught fire and some of the first people to arrive on the scene told this news agency they could hear the occupants of the car screaming.
“There was little we could do as the entire car was covered in flames,” a construction worker on the site said.
Four the five occupants of the Corolla were burnt beyond recognition, while the fifth person’s body was thrown through the windscreen.
Police investigations continue.
