Top 8 quarter-final draw held

WINDHOEK, 08 MAR (NAMPA) – The Namibia Premier League (NPL) on Thursday conducted the draw for the 2019 Standard Bank Top 8 Cup, which saw Tura Magic Football Club being paired with African Stars, while Tigers will face Black Africa.
The tournament will see the teams clash in two-legged matches.
The first leg will take place at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on 16 March, while the return leg is scheduled for Windhoek on 30 March 2019.
Speaking at the draw ceremony, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer Junius Vetumbuavi Mungunda said football is a universal sport that is played all over the world, hence as a bank they have operations all over the world, which is why they felt the bank and football are a perfect match.
“Sponsoring the Top 8 will make the whole league more competitive because not only teams in the top three will benefit, but those in the top 8 will also be rewarded for their efforts. We are proud to have entered into football to add sponsorship into football,” he said.
He added that they wish to see the other companies supporting local football.
Mungunda said he was impressed by the top teams and called on fans to come and support their favourite teams.
The winners of the trophy will take home N.dollars 500 000.
The losing semi-finalists will each receive N.dollars 125 00, while the losing finalist will get N.dollars 250 000.
