52-year-old woman killed in family fight at Groot Aub

WINDHOEK, 23 DEC (NAMPA) - A 52-year-old woman died at Groot Aub settlement last Friday, after she was hit with a brick or rock during a fight between two families.
Police spokesperson, Edwin Kanguatjivi told reporters here on Sunday that the deceased, Angelica Gaes, was struck on the head with an object which is suspected to be a brick or a rock in the midst of a violent fight between the two families.
“A rock or brick was thrown by one group at the other, and in the process it hit Gaes. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Groot Aub Clinic,” Kanguatjivi said.
Five male suspects were arrested in connection with the incident - four adults and a minor.
Kanguatjivi could however not say how old the minor was or shed light about the minor’s participation in the fight.
In a separate incident, eight-year-old Daniel Jona drowned in a water pond near his homestead at Okamwandi Kamadhigu village in the Omusati Region.
According to Kanguatjivi, the deceased and his friends were playing near the water pond when the Jona told his friends that he wanted to test the depths of the water. He jumped in and drowned.
“His friends ran home to report the incidents, but it was too late when the older people arrived to get him out of the water pond,” Kanguatjivi said.
The deceased was transported to the police mortuary and an autopsy will be conducted. His next-of-kin have been informed.
