KEETMANSHOOP, 08 MAR (NAMPA) – A Keetmanshoop woman is expected to appear in court for allegedly killing her newborn baby in the Donkerhoek residential area here last week Saturday.
Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for //Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Thursday the woman allegedly gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday around 02h00, and killed her in an unknown manner shortly afterwards.
“On the same day she informed her friends who visited her that she gave birth to a stillborn baby at the hospital, while the baby was hidden in one of the rooms at her house,” he said.
Mubebo said on Sunday around 16h30, the woman with some friends allegedly took the body to the hospital pretending to seek medical assistance for the infant, who was already in a decomposed state.
“It is after that stage that the matter was reported to the police and a post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday at the hospital here and it was established that the baby was alive at birth,” Mubebo said.
He said the woman whose age is still unknown to the police is currently at the same Keetmanshoop State Hospital receiving medical attention and will soon be arrested and appear in court.
She faces charges of murder, concealment, culpable homicide, being an accessory after the fact and defeating the course of justice.
Police investigations continue in the matter.
