REHOBOTH, 07 MAR (NAMPA) – A 53-year-old man arrested for the alleged murder of a 26-year-old man in Duineveld on Saturday, made his first appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Willem Dawids appeared before Magistrate Verinao Kamahene on a charge of murder and his case was postponed to 17 April for further police investigations and for the finalisation of the legal aid application of the accused.
It is alleged that Dawids had an argument with Simon Jagger in the Camp residential area over a memory card, which Jagger was thought to have sold.
He allegedly stabbed Jagger with a knife, causing the blade to break off in his neck.
Loide Nghixulifwa represented the State in the matter and opposed the granting of bail, saying the matter is still in its infant stages.
Dawids is detained at the Kalkrand Police holding cells.
In another case, a man accused of stabbing his cousin to death at Gochas in the Hardap Region on 24 March 2018, made another court appearance at the village on Wednesday, where his case was postponed to 10 April for the Prosecutor-General’s decision.
Willem Kooper, 24, appeared before Magistrate Yvonne McLeod on a charge of murder.
It is alleged that the victim, 28-year-old Andries Kooper, died after being stabbed by the accused at their home in the Hei-eib residential area. The accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he got home and started arguing with the victim.
Kooper made his first appearance on 26 March 2018 and was denied bail on the grounds of public interest and the matter being in the early stages of investigation.
He was represented by SC Garbers on instruction of the Legal Aid Directorate in the Ministry of Justice.
Prosecutor Anitha Likius represented the State in the matter.
