OTJIWARONGO, 06 MAR (NAMPA) – A man suspected to be in his mid-30s died at the Okahandja State Hospital after he was run over by a vehicle near the Five Rand informal settlement in the early hours of Tuesday.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Wednesday the accident occurred between 00h00 and 01h00 Tuesday morning on the Okahandja-Windhoek B1 road.
She said the deceased was found completely naked at the time of the incident.
“Preliminary police investigations indicate that a white pick-up was driving from the northern to southern side of Okahandja when a man allegedly jumped in the road from the eastern side and was hit by the car,” said Mbeha.
The man sustained injuries and was transported to the Okahandja State Hospital where he succumbed at about 04h00 on Tuesday, Mbeha added.
“We made efforts to trace his relatives and where he was coming from at that hour, but we did not succeed. Therefore, I now call on any person missing a relative around that area to talk to us,” she said.
A culpable homicide case has been opened at the Okahandja Police Station against the 46-year-old driver of the pick-up.
Police investigations continue.
