Boy dies after jumping off moving truck

REHOBOTH, 04 MAR (NAMPA) – A case of culpable homicide and hit and run was reported to the police in the Hardap Region after a 13-year-old boy died on the scene after jumping from a moving truck.
The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa Sunday the incident happened on Saturday at about 03h00 at the T-junction of the Hoachanas-Kalkrand road on the B1 main road.
“It is alleged that five children who were hitchhiking from Rehoboth to Kalkrand apparently asked for a lift at Echo Service Station from a man believed to be a South African truck driver, but he refused and while he was in the shop the kids decided to hide themselves in the spare tyre of the truck,” Clay said.
According to the police reports, the driver, unaware of the kids drove to Kalkrand and the kids decided to jump off as the truck was approaching Kalkrand.
Four children managed to jump, but the deceased was fatally injured on his head after he jumped off and died on the scene.
The driver of the truck has not been traced and anyone with information is requested to contact Deputy Commissioner Clay on 081 129 8473 or Sergeant Hamunyela on 081 149 9870.
In another incident in the Hardap Region, a 25-year-old woman died on Saturday after she was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife on her back by a 31-year-old woman in Maltahöhe.
Clay said the deceased was identified as Magdalena Engelbrecht.
The incident occurred around 06h45 at Blikkiesdorp.
“It is alleged that the deceased was stabbed with a kitchen knife on the left side of the back after a heated argument. The exact cause of the argument is unknown,” Clay said.
The suspect who cannot be named as she is yet to appear in court was arrested and police investigations into the matter continue.
In another stabbing incident at Camp residential area in Duineveld, about 20 kilometres north of Kalkrand, a 26-year-old man was stabbed with a knife in his neck and died instantly.
Clay said the incident happened on Saturday around 19h30 at an open area in Camp residential area.
“It is alleged that the 53-year-old suspect had an argument with the deceased over a memory card which might have been sold by the deceased, after which the suspect fought the deceased and stabbed him with a knife, causing the blade to break in the neck of the deceased,” Clay said.
The deceased was identified as Simon Jagger.
The next of kin of the deceased are informed and police investigation continues.
