WINDHOEK, 22 DEC (NAMPA) - A Havana man allegedly stabbed his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend to death on Sunday morning with an unknown sharp object, and then hurriedly left the bloody scene to hang himself dead.
This incident occurred around 05h00 at a house along Omutula Street in Windhoeks Havana residential area.
The victim, identified as Maria Ndawendwa, sustained 17 stab wounds, mostly to her back. Her body was found completely naked.
From the multiple stab wounds that we saw on her body, we suspect that the offender might have used a sharp knife, a screwdriver or a sharp piece of metal, said City Police Senior Superintendent Gerry Shikesho.
He said the motive behind the stabbing has not yet been established.
Witnesses, who saw the two out together at a drinking spot close to the victims house the night before the incident (Friday), said they did not notice any sign of discomfort, disagreement or confrontation between them.
The witnesses said they were only wondering whether the two had gotten back together because they had broken up a few months before.
It is therefore suspected that the man might have been trying to woo the woman back and she probably rejected him.
According to Shikesho, the 35-year-old man allegedly stabbed his victim near her home, and then went back to his house in Walvis Bay Street, Havana. Shortly after that, he went to a tree close by and hanged himself with a rope from a tree.
The next-of-kin have been informed of the deaths, and police investigations continue.
