WINDHOEK, 28 FEB (NAMPA) – The Khomas Netball Region on Thursday announced the Season Opening Tournament which officially kicks off the 2019 netball season in the Khomas Region.
A statement issued to Nampa said the Season Opening Tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday at the netball courts of the Patrick Iiyambo Police Training College in the Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek.
According to the Khomas Netball Region’s public relations officer Isack Hamata, the tournament is split into three divisions; the Premier League, First Division and Second Division, attracting a total of 30 teams.
“The tournament will be played on a round robin format, and the two top teams in each group will qualify to play in the semi-finals. The winners of those semi-final encounters will compete in the respective finals,” Hamata said in the statement.
The tournament will provide a platform for teams to try out new players and combinations in anticipation of an exciting and competitive netball season.
The season opening tournament is partly sponsored by First National Bank Namibia through trophies and medals for all three divisions for the second successive year.
An umpire workshop will also take place on the sidelines of the Season Opening Tournament, facilitated by Netball Namibia.
The workshop is mandatory for all clubs as it will serve to improve the quality of umpiring and ultimately the quality of netball in the region throughout the 2019 season and beyond, the statement noted.
