WINDHOEK, 28 FEB (NAMPA) Brigadier General Lasarus Hermann is the new General Officer Commanding of the Air Defence Brigade in the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
He replaced Brigadier General Moses Nghilifa, who has retired.
The change of command was conducted at the Luiperdsvallei Military Base near Windhoek on Thursday.
The change of command involved out-going Brigadier General Nghilifa handing over a symbol of military power to Brigadier General Hermann in the presence of other members of the NDF.
Nghilifa said over the course of almost 43 years in service he has thrown his body, mind and heart into getting the job done and the lessons he learned were about trust, dedication, responsibility, duty, judgment and loyalty, which he carried throughout his life.
In good and bad times, we worked together accomplishing the mission of defending the territorial integrity of Namibia, its people, properties and national interests, he said.
Accepting his new role, Hermann thanked the appointing authority for trusting him to take on the position and said Nghilifa will be remembered for a number good of achievements.
Be assured that I cannot change everything at once, but if we choose wisely and work together transparently, flexible and with integrity then progress in a few areas will be fruitful, Hermann said.
He started serving in the position on Thursday.
Hermann received various forms of military training in exile since 1977, when he was a member of the Swapo military wing. He joined the NDF in 1990 and was the first military attaché to the Peoples Republic of China from 2000 to 2004.
