REHOBOTH, 27 FEB (NAMPA) – A 45-year-old man arrested for the alleged murder of a 26-year-old man and attempted murder of another man at Rehoboth’s Sonderwater informal settlement, made his second appearance at the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Manfred Mouton appeared before Magistrate Desmond Beukes on charges of the murder of Saul van Wyk and attempted murder of Clive Fredericks, 29.
His case was postponed to 26 March for further investigations and for him to get legal representation.
Mouton indicated that he will enlist the services of a private lawyer.
It is alleged that the accused stabbed Van Wyk on the left side of the chest with a knife and then also stabbed Fredericks on the left side of the chest and upper arm in a quarrel over N.dollars 10 early this month.
Van Wyk died on the spot, while Fredericks was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in a serious condition.
Prosecutor Zibiho Munenze, representing the State in the matter, opposed bail on the grounds that the matter is still in its infant stages and that the State’s evidence in the matter is quite strong, with a possibility of interference and absconding by the accused.
The court however indicated to the accused that bail will be considered when more information is availed during a formal application.
Mouton is in custody at the Rehoboth Police Station holding cells.
