REHOBOTH, 25 FEB (NAMPA) – A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Friday in Rehoboth after an unknown suspect grabbed her and had sexual intercourse with her, without her consent.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay confirmed to Nampa on Sunday that the rape incident happened between 02h00 and 04h00 in Block E.
“The victim, who was highly intoxicated was allegedly grabbed by an unknown suspect who had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. [The] suspect is unknown but according to the victim she might recognize him if she see him again,” he said.
In an unrelated incident, a 22-year-old woman was also allegedly raped on 15 February at around 04h00 at a house in Block E, however the incident was only reported to the police on Friday.
In the incident, Clay said two suspects were allegedly drinking with the victim and other friends at a local club and thereafter the three of them went to the house of one of the suspects, where she was apparently overpowered by the suspects, who held her down and took turns raping her.
The two suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear before the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Investigations in both cases continue.
