NC standing committee to hold public hearings

WINDHOEK, 23 FEB (NAMPA) - The National Council (NC)s Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Economy will hold public hearings between Monday and Friday with various regional councils and local authorities here.
The hearings will be held with chief regional officers chief executive officers who are expected to account for and explain various concerns raised in the Auditor-Generals reports their respective authorities for its financial years from 2013 until 2016.
The hearings will commence on Monday with the Gobabis Municipality and the Omaheke Regional Council at the National Council building.
The NC will then hold meetings with the Swakopmund Municipality and Koës Village Council on Tuesday; Witvlei Village Council and Kavango East Regional Council on Wednesday; Zambezi Regional Council, Karibib Town Council and Opuwo Town Council on Thursday; and Omaheke Regional Council and Gobabis Municipality on Friday.
The National Council Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Economy is responsible for scrutiny of legislation, policy development, assessments of policy implementation and government supervision.
The Standing committee conducts hearings and collects evidence it considers necessary for the exercise of its powers of review and investigation.
