Tura Magic through to the semi-finals of top eight

WINDHOEK, 23 FEB (NAMPA) – Two goals from Salomon Omseb on either side of the half time break were enough to hand Tura Magic a 2-1 win over Mighty Gunners, securing a semi-final spot for his team in the Standard Bank Namibia Top Eight competition on Friday.
The competition that sees the top eight football clubs in the Namibia Premier League (NPL) vying for top honours, kicked off on Thursday night.
On Friday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Omseb opened the scoring as early as the third minute but Mighty Gunners replied with a goal of their own just two minutes later from a brilliant strike by Olzen Ameb outside the box.
The two teams went into the half tied at 1-1.
The second stanza of the match offered little to separate the two teams as they both attacked on both sides of the field, but it was Tura Magic who were once again lucky as their hard work paid off in the 77th minute after an unmarked Omseb headed in a goal from close range.
After going down, Mighty Gunners tried all they could to get an equaliser but the on-form Tura Magic goalkeeper, Mervin Kasetura, denied them that opportunity after a couple of brilliant saves to keep his team ahead.
After the match Tura Magic coach, Fortune Eichab, told Nampa that he was not happy with his team’s performance but he is looking forward to their next challenge in the competition.
“We just played Mighty Gunners’ game tonight but I am proud of the boys’ hard work, which booked us a spot in the next round of the competition. We will for now turn our attention to the league games while [we] await to see who will be drawn against us,” he said.
Eichab added that his team will be ready to face whoever they will be drawn against in the semi-finals as their goal is to go far in this competition like any other team.
Shandumabala-based Tigers became the first team to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition after a 1-0 victory over UNAM FC.
Saturday will see the Standard Bank Top Eight continuing with clashes between Black Africa and Eleven Arrows at 17h00, while Orlando Pirates will take on African Stars at 20h00. Both matches are scheduled to take place at the Sam Nujoma stadium.
