WINDHOEK, 20 FEB (NAMPA) The Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation (NRSDF) will host the Top Two football and netball tournament in Windhoek next month.
The tournament is slated for 08 March at the Khomasdal Stadium.
Established in 2000, the NRSDF develops and promotes sports in rural areas and has a membership of 21 rural sports associations from the Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Hardap, Erongo and Omaheke Regions.
The tournament will see the top two football and netball teams from the different constituencies of the association members compete, its spokesperson, Ngatuuane Hange, told Nampa on Tuesday.
The federation has set aside N.dollars 40 000 for the hosting of the event - N.dollars 14 000 for the netball category and N.dollars 26 000 for the football category.
The netball winner will take home N.dollars 6 000, a trophy and 12 gold medals, while the runners-up will walk away with N.dollars 3 000 plus 12 silver medals.
Each semi-final loser will take home N.dollars 2 000.
The winning team in the football category will pocket N.dollars 11 000, a trophy plus 20 gold medals, whereas the runners-up will get N.dollars 7 000 with 20 silver medals.
The semi-final losers will each pocket N.dollars 3 500.
Hange said the registration fee for football is N.dollars 1 200, while the netball teams will pay N.dollars 900. They have up to 28 February to register.
Otjombinde-based Young Stars are the current champions of the football competition after defeating Eastern Swallows from Epukiro in Gobabis.
Otjinoko ladies won the netball category after defeating their counterparts from Okombomi-based Renamo Bucks at Legare stadium.
