ONGWEDIVA, 17 FEB (NAMPA) - A 27-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly beat two boys to death and seriously injured his grandmother at Okafitu ka Katanyange village in the Omusati Region Friday night.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the region, Inspector Linekela Shikongo told Nampa the boys were aged eight and 12.
The suspect, said to be an Angolan national, fled the scene shortly after allegedly committing the offence and was arrested Saturday at 16h30 at Outapi.
Shikongo said the woman was rushed to the Outapi District Hospital, where it was discovered that she was also raped.
She is said to be in serious condition.
“It is alleged that the suspect entered the room where the three were sleeping at midnight and beat them several times, using a hoe handle and the branch of a Mopane tree. The two children died on the spot,” Shikongo said.
The deceased have been identified as Linus Ndapuka, 12, and Thomas Malakia, eight.
Shikongo noted that the reason for the suspect’s actions are not yet known and NamPol investigations into the matter are ongoing.
He said the suspect faces two counts of murder and a count of attempted murder, while a charge of rape will be added after it was discovered at the hospital that the woman was raped.
Okafitu ka Katanyange is situated in the Omusati Region’s Outapi Constituency.
