Swapo elders must pass torch to young ones: Nelongo

15 Feb 2019 10:40am
OSHAKATI, 15 FEB (NAMPA) – Oshana Region Swapo Party coordinator, Samuel Nelongo said his region believes that leadership is like a relay race, whereby the elders must pass on the torch to the younger ones in an orderly manner.
Nelongo said this whilst officially opening the first Oshana Swapo Party regional executive committee meeting for 2019 at Oshakati here on Thursday.
Dressed in Swapo’s blue, red and green colours, party members from the region and 11 districts, as well as political office bearers in local authority councils across the region attended the meeting.
Nelongo reminded members of his executive committee that 2019 is the National Elections year and leaders and members of the party are expected to be of good ethical conduct if the party is to continue winning the elections with two-thirds majority.
He urged the serving leaders of the party in their respective districts to inspire and groom the young members, especially members of the pioneer movement, to understand the party culture of performance, constitution and programme.
Nelongo pointed out that the party this year, from March to May, will also renew the mandate of office bearers at the section, branch and district levels.
“We are going to elect leaders in those positions,” Nelongo told his audience, adding that factionalism and electing of individuals without valid membership cards into leadership positions deeply concern the party’s national leadership.
He demanded that electing of non-Swapo members must be avoided at all costs.
Nelongo went on to say regional executive committees have the responsibility of implementing decisions, resolutions and directives of the party congress, central committee, political bureau and that of regional conferences.
Regional executive committees are also responsible for the political mobilisation of the masses for broader participation in the activities of Swapo in the regions, he noted.
