ONGWEDIVA, 12 FEB (NAMPA) – A 22-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a rifle at Uuhongo village of the Omusati Region’s Onesi Constituency at around 08h30 on Sunday.
Confirming the incident to Nampa on Monday, Inspector Linekela Shikongo of the Namibian Police Force’s Public Relations Unit in the region identified the deceased as Eelu Simon Shimwino from Oshipinga village, also in Onesi.
According to Shikongo, the deceased reportedly killed himself with the same rifle he used to shoot and kill his 22-year-old girlfriend, Ndapandula Magano Kalumbu, at the same village around 19h00 on Friday.
He also allegedly shot at people who had gathered at the scene of the murder, injuring two before fleeing.
“The injured persons were rushed to Tsandi District Hospital, where they were treated and discharged on the same day,” Shikongo explained.
Shimwino was on the run since Friday night but allegedly killed himself while the police were chasing after him on Sunday.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed of their deaths.
