Namwater releases water at Naute dam

KEETMANSHOOP, 11 FEB (NAMPA) – The Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) on Monday started releasing waster at Naute dam in the //Kharas region after the dam water level reached 104.1 per cent.
Information provided by NamWater said the release started at 12h00 on Monday and it is expected to last for at least six hours.
The water will be released at the rate of 250 m3 per second, reducing the dam water level to 100 per cent and 3.9 million m3 is expected to be discharged.
The information further indicated that the dam water level last week Monday was at 61.7 per cent and the increase to 104.1 percent water was because of the rain over the past three days.
NamWater added that it had to release the water as there is a potential that it might rain and it is best that the dam water level is kept at 100 per cent.
The Southern part of the country received good rain over the past few days with up to 80 to 100 mm recorded in different parts of the south.
