Man drowns at Hobas

KEETMANSHOOP, 09 FEB (NAMPA) – A 22-year-old man on Friday drowned when the tent he was sleeping in was flooded at the Namibia Wildlife Resorts Hobas campsite near the Fish River Canyon in the //Kharas Region.
Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for //Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Saturday that the deceased was identified as Ben Henry Markus.
He said the incident happened around 21h00 on Friday after the tents Markus and eight other people were sleeping in were swept away in the river.
“The group was camping at the resort and when the heavy rain started, workers heard a loud noise when the river where the tents were erected came down,” he said.
The other eight people were rescued on Friday night while Markus’ body was discovered on Saturday morning around 08h00.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
