WINDHOEK, 07 FEB (NAMPA) – The Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo has appointed Engelhardt Kongoro as the chairperson of the National Petroleum Corporation (Namcor) board, effective 01 February 2019.
Kongoro replaces Patrick Kauta who resigned from the post in October 2018 after serving since 2016.
Alweendo who made the announcement here Thursday, also declared the appointment of Onni-Ndangi Iithete as the sixth member on the board, as a legal practitioner.
The board previously only had five members without any legal representative hence the appointment of Iithete, he said.
Alweendo said Kongoro has a long career in the oil industry spanning over more than 20 years, while Iithete is an experienced lawyer who served in both the private and public sectors.
“Board of directors have an important role to play to ensure the company’s prosperity by directing the interest of the company’s affairs in the best attention of not only the shareholders but also in the interest of future plans and strategies of the organisation,” he stressed.
Therefore, the minister urged the board members to form an effective cooperative relationship with its management by creating a clear mutual understanding of roles and responsibilities as well as having an open flow of relevant information.
“If there is no cooperative and interdependent relationship between the board and management the end result will be suspicions, chaos, mistrust and infighting,” he warned.
