REHOBOTH, 06 FEB (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old man arrested for the alleged rape of a 34-year-old woman in Mariental on Saturday made his first appearance at the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Hendrick le Roux appeared before Magistrate Vincent Nzaca on a charge of rape when his case was postponed to 09 April 2019 for the accused to apply for legal aid and for laboratory results to be obtained.
It is alleged the 34-year-old victim reported that she was drinking tombo at a certain house in Aimablaagte location in Mariental and later when she left, two men, who were also at the same place, followed her to the side of the graveyard before overpowering her, removing her underwear and taking turns to rape her.
One of the suspects is still at large and the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) continues its search for him.
Public Prosecutor Loide Nghixulifwa represented the State in the matter and called for the refusal of bail, saying the investigations are still at an early stage and that the granting of bail would not be in the public’s interest.
Le Roux remains in custody at the Mariental NamPol holding cells.
